Term 6

Come Outside!

We have been reading What the Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson. To retell the story we used stick puppets in our puppet theatre. This term's topic is 'Come Outside! So, we have been thinking of different activities we do outside, and this week we were camping. We enjoyed getting our tents ready and making a campfire to toast our cotton wool marshmallows on.

To continue to develop our fine motor skills, we used playdough to create our own ladybirds. To copy the trail of the ladybird flying to each animal to whisper her plan, we used ribbons wands and chalk marking.

This week we have been reading the story of What The Ladybird Heard at the Seaside. Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len are up to their old tricks, but luckily the Ladybird has a plan to stop them.

On the theme of the seaside the children have been using shells to make prints into playdough.

There were buckets and spades to make sandcastles in the sandpit. We had our Barn Owl's version of the sea to paddle in and swim across!

We have been using 2D shapes to make patterns and pictures. You can see the mermaid from the story made of shapes. Children used the water syringes to make the boats move from one water tray to another along the guttering. The sunshine has helped with our theme of being at the seaside!

This week our story was 'Sharing a Shell' by Julia Donaldson. The three friends, crab, anemone and bristleworm have to work together and get along when they need to find  new home. We have created an underwater scene and painted shells to make sea creatures. The Barn Owls have also been practising their fishing skills by catching the magnetic fish. The sand pit has been very busy this week in the sunshine and just like the characters in the story, the Barn Owls have all got along.

We have cooled down by dipping our feet in a tray of water, being sprayed by the hosepipe and on Friday afternoon we enjoyed an ice lolly!

This week we have been thinking about moving on to our new roles, whether that is on to a reception class, or becoming the older Barn Owls in the class. Our home corner has become a bedroom, with a desk and school uniform to try on. The children have enjoyed dressing up.

We have also been practising our writing of numbers and letters. The children have been exploring the school grounds and making their own school out of blocks.
