Term 1 Week 7 The Colour Monster

The Colour Monster

This week our story was the The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas. It has made us think about our feelings and colours. We have been matching feelings to colours. There has also been lots of fun mixing and making new colours with water and paint.

Our home corner has become the hospital and we have been taking turns to take care of the patients and dolls! We have been on a walk around the school grounds looking for signs of autumn and collecting leaves that have changed colour.

We hope you have a relaxing half term.

Our trip to the Old Farm shop

Still image for this video
We had a great afternoon adventure exploring at the Old Farm shop, where we meet all the characters from the traditional tales we have been reading this term.
There were the Billy Goats Gruff, the Little Red Hen, the Three Little pigs ( actually ten piglets), as well as calves, geese and sheep too.
Travelling there in the minibus was also very exciting!
Thank you to Mrs Potter for driving and to Mrs Mestre for putting together this wonderful video.

Term 1 Week 6    Kindness Buckets

This week we have been reading the story, Have you Filled a Bucket today? by Carol McCloud. We have been thinking about all the kind actions and words we can use to fill our kindness buckets. We have also been thinking about our different feelings and how our expressions can let people know how we are feeling.

After our visit to the farm  we turned the nursery garden into our own farm and have enjoyed looking after the horses and riding on the tractors.

This week we have been very creative as we painted pictures by rolling conkers. We painted our hands to make leaves for the kindness tree and decorated our own kindness buckets too.

Term 1 Week 5 The Three Billy Goats Gruff

This week we have been reading the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and linking this to building bridges. We have made bridges for the cars and trains to travel over. We have also made bridges with the milk crates and planks in the garden that we can walk over. There has been lots of fun exploring and balancing with all the conkers that filled the water tray, and we even made a giant conker run with the guttering and pipes!

The Barn Owls and Robins brilliantly performed our harvest song, Big Red Combine Harvester. You can see this below.

Term 1 Week 4 The Little Red Hen

This week we have been reading the story of the Little Red Hen. She was very busy and had to do all the jobs herself, because her friends were too lazy to help. We have been very busy and helpful Barn Owls this week, getting lots of jobs done. We visited the school allotment and saw how big the pumpkins were getting!

We have been learning how a windmill works to grind the corn into flour. We made our own pin windmills. The Barn Owls worked as millers taking the sacks of flour to the windmill.

We enjoyed making and painting salt dough characters from the story, to help retell the story.

Term 1 Week 3 The Three Little Pigs

This week we have been reading the story of The Three Little Pigs. The Barn Owls have been great at building their own houses out of many different materials, including straw, sticks and bricks. They have also made stick puppets so they can retell the story.

As you can see from the photographs that in early years we are outside, whatever the weather, and this week we seemed to have experienced a wide range!

There has been lots of counting and number hunting this week. The children have been able to sort groups and digits into the correct numbers.

The Barn Owls have been very busy looking after and cleaning the nursery garden this weekend. We have all enjoyed having the guinea pigs; Toffee, Caramel, Pumpkin and Nutmeg back in the garden. They have been lots of guinea pig cuddles this week.

Term 1 week 2 Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Our first full week has been brilliant. The Barn Owls have settled well into our class routines.

We have enjoyed retelling the story of Goldilocks using puppets and making our own bear masks. The Barn Owls have been busy sorting objects in to small, medium and big, just like the three bears. We have even made porridge and just like Goldilocks, we ate it all up!

W/C 5th September:

This week we have been exploring the classroom with new layout and resources. We have also been welcoming new Barn Owls. We also celebrated Miss Walls' birthday on Wednesday, it was a very special number so you may have seen some of the decorations. We have started our story of Goldilocks and the 3 bears. Around the classroom are little hints of the story to spark the children into retelling the story. Next week we will be doing lots of adult led activities around the theme of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. If you would like to borrow a copy of the book to read at home please do speak to a member of staff.
