Supporting your child's learning at home.
There are two simple things that will make a huge difference to your child's learning in Year 6 that are easily supported at home:
1. Establish a daily reading routine, encouraging your child to be reading for a minimum of 20-30 minutes a day. In Year 6, your child does not need to read to an adult every day but we strongly encourage that you listen to them read once a week. Please record ALL reading on Reading Records. There are ideas for fantastic books on the class webpage if you are looking for additional inspiration.
2. Practising and learning times tables. It is crucial for confidence in maths that children know the times tables (2-12) by heart as multiplication and division facts. The Year 6 curriculum requires this knowledge for a wide range of processes. Without this knowledge children are disadvantaged as they need to put all effort into 'working out' the times table rather than applying the maths process. Practice makes it stick!
