  • Keeping Calm and Carrying On

Tue 17 Mar 2020 Mrs Hornsey
School was very calm today, and the children were engaging with their learning. We had a lovely break outside with the weather mild enough not to need coats.
  • Strategy planning

Tue 17 Mar 2020 Mrs Hornsey

We are working very hard in school to plan for all eventualities as the Coronavirus situation unfolds. This is challenging because as you are aware advice changes frequently. It is looking increasingly likely that there will be a period of time when schools close. When to close however is not our decision to make- we must follow central government advice. As a staff team we are working together to plan the best ways to set appropriate work and keep  lines of communication open if we are not here.

In assembly this morning, the children watched BBC news round and we explained things to them in an age appropriate way. All stafff are aware of children’s anxiety and working to give them opportunities to discuss their worries.

  • Wacky Races

Tue 17 Mar 2020 Mrs Potter
This term the families in Barn Owls Nursery were set a challenge - what can you make from a cardboard box? Their topic is transport so there were so many creative opportunities.  As you can see, they all absolutely rose to the challenge!  Activities like these encourage the whole family to work together, encouraging language development, discussion and negotiation skills.
  • Where The Wild Things Are

Mon 16 Mar 2020 Mrs Hamblin
Year 3 have been enjoying the book ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ in their English lessons, exploring the themes and writing poems in response about Max, the hero. They have also been thinking about different Wild Things of their own.
  • A New Outside Area For Year 1

Mon 16 Mar 2020 Mrs Hornsey
Mr Greenough and his helper for the morning Aurin have been measuring up and preparing to build the boundaries for the new Year 1 play area. This will enable Year 1 to have some of their learning outside, such as sand and water which are so important for early maths.
  • It’s Business As Usual

Mon 16 Mar 2020 Mrs Hornsey
Obviously things aren’t quite as usual with the news of the rapidly spreading Coronavirus, but we are all working hard to maintain a feeling of calm, stability and safety here at school for the children. This means keeping them hard at their learning in the classrooms but also having lots of fun as they go.
  • Come And Join Us

Mon 16 Mar 2020 Mrs Hornsey

We are looking for two Early Years Support Workers to join our thriving nursery class after Easter. The full details are here on this website:

Do you know anyone who would like to apply?  If so, let them know.

  • Could You Help?

Wed 11 Mar 2020 Mrs Hornsey
We are really grateful to the members of our wider community who come in to school to help the children learn. Our volunteers work where they feel they are most skilled. For example, Dr Atkinson our Chair of Governors likes to help the older children with maths. Mrs Hamilton comes in weekly to read with children. Do you know anyone in the community who could spare an hour a week to work with children?  Or do you have some time yourself?  It can make such a difference.
  • Parents’ Evenings

Tue 10 Mar 2020 Mrs Hornsey
Parents’ and carers’ consultation evenings are some of my favourite times of the school year. It’s lovely to see the children sharing their work and discussing their progress. Teachers enjoy having this dedicated time to meet you and share individual targets with you. Your help in supporting your children at home with these is always much appreciated and helps us to ensure your child reaches their potential. This year it has been lovely to see our student teachers involved, as they will have their own classes very soon in September when they are qualified!
  • Raising Money for Kabubu School

Tue 10 Mar 2020 Mrs Hornsey
We have a small book stall on the entrance hall this week, selling second hand children’s books in aid of our partner school in Uganda, Kabubu Church of Uganda Primary School. The children there love stories as much as we do, but books are very expensive for them and they do not have access to as many as we do.  If you have any pre-loved books to donate, please bring them in. Books are 50p for a small one and £1 for a large one. Make sure you bring some money with you when you pop in!
