  • School Council Maths Walks

Fri 31 Jan 2020 Mrs Hornsey
Over the past two weeks, the members of School Council have been visiting other classes to see how maths is learned across the school. We are all working on developing our problem solving skills, particularly our ability to explain our thinking and prove our ideas. School council are trying to find out how this is going, what helps us learn, and what we could do even better.
  • A New Sandpit

Thu 30 Jan 2020 Mrs Hornsey
There has been lots of excitement in the Nursery garden this week as Mr Greenough has been repairing the sand pit. The children have loved watching him work- safely behind a temporary fence, of course!
  • What a drama!

Wed 29 Jan 2020 Mrs Hornsey
The children in Year 4 and 5 are lucky enough to have specialist drama lessons with Miss Robertson, the teacher from Didcot Girls' School and Didcot Sixth Form.  This week they have been learning about improvisation skills and emphasising movement and facial expression, as you can see from these action shots!
  • Help for Koalas

Wed 29 Jan 2020 Mrs Hornsey
Lara is very worried about the koalas in Australia who have had their habitats destroyed by the recent bush fires. She is going to run a cake sale next Monday, 3rd February, in aid of the World Wildlife Fund. This charity has been working with the affected animals. If you would like to help by baking some cakes, please let the Year 2 team know and they can pass it on.
  • Film Stars

Mon 27 Jan 2020 Mrs Hornsey
Today eleven of our pupils travelled to DGS in the minibus to take part in a short film. The Executive Headteacher of the trust Rachael Warwick, is the President of the Association of School and College Leaders. Every year the President hosts a conference. A film is made of some of the children in their trust talking about their experiences of education and shown at the conference. Our children did us proud, speaking with confidence. They were remarkably relaxed in front of the cameras!  While we were waiting, Tom entertained us with magic tricks!
  • Our Friends in Kabubu

Fri 24 Jan 2020 Mrs Hornsey
You may remember me telling you in October that School Council had made a scrapbook with photographs for our partner school in Kabubu, Unganda. We included pictures of our classrooms and some of the wonderful resources we are lucky to use. As always, we also focused on the things we have in common with the children there, such as our love of books and sharing stories. The children in Kabubu have been back in contact this week and sent us some lovely pictures of their craft sale, which sounds a bit like our bazaar or fete.
  • Governors visit to school

Thu 23 Jan 2020 Mrs Hornsey
Thanks Today we welcomed a group of eight governors and members of the MAT trust board into school to see the children working and hear about the work we are doing on our School Development Plan. They watched one of the very popular ‘Open The Book’ assemblies led by the team from All Saints Church, who helped us act out one of the stories of King David. They also spent time talking to children  about their RE work and their writing, and visited classes to see children working. Afterwards some were able to join us for lunch.
  • A Fabulous Performance

Tue 21 Jan 2020 Mrs Hornsey
Well done to the choir who performed with huge energy and enthusiasm at the Birmingham Arena tonight in the Young Voices concert. It’s been a long day but an amazing experience!

  • Teachers Learn Too

Fri 17 Jan 2020 Mrs Hornsey

It has been a busy week for staff training this week.  Thank you for bearing with us on Wednesday when you had to use the side entrance to collect your children.  We hosted a large event for schools across the Abingdon Partnership, listening to an excellent speaker called Betsy deTierry who works with children who have experience trauma.

Mrs Knight and Ms Parks were in London on Thursday at a PiXL conference.  PiXL stands for Partners in Excellence.  It is an organisation we belong to which supports us to use the least research and resources to help children remember more effectively so they can use their knowledge across their learning.
