Reading at Home
Your child will be supplied with a reading folder, reading record and school reading book. This must be brought into school everyday. Reading books will be changed once a week on a Monday. Reading records will be checked, please record every time you hear your child read, if this is not recorded, the book will not be changed as we will assume it has not been read. We encourage the books to be read as many times as possible in the week as this helps to develop both resilience and word recognition.
During the first term, your child may bring home a book they've already read in Robins class. This is because we encourage the children to choose books they enjoy, fostering a love for reading. Please don’t be concerned if the book seems too easy. Our goal is to first build their confidence and enjoyment in reading before gradually introducing more challenging material.
Reading is a core part of our day to day life at school where we encourage children to discover and explore a range of texts as well as aiming to encourage a love for reading.
It is important to establish a reading routine at home where children are reading every day to an adult for 5 minutes. Please record any reading to an adult in their reading diary.
If you have any questions about reading at home please do come and speak to the teacher.
