Visions and Values

Love life; love learning; love one another

Our vision of the school is built upon community - learning together, discovering together and loving one another in order to achieve the highest standards across the curriculum, in our values and how we behave.

'A new command I give you: love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another.'

John 13 v34

Our Mission

Our mission is to strive for excellence.  The spirit and teaching of the Christian faith underpin all aspects of school life.  We are committed to encouraging and supporting individuals to reach their full potential in becoming life-long, independent learners.

Our Values

Our values were thoughtfully selected by our children through 'Pupil Parliament' sessions.

We show respect

Do for other people the same you want them to do for you.

Matthew 7 v12

We are honest Think about things that are good and worthy of praise.  Think about the things that are true and honourable and right and pure and beautiful and respected.  And do what you learned and received from me.  Do what I told you and what you saw me do.  Philippians 4 v8-9
We are responsible Don't judge other people, and you will not be judged.  You will be judged in the same way that you judge others.  And the forgiveness you give to others will be given to you.  Matthew 7 v12
We are kind If one has the gift of encouraging others he should encourage.  If one has the gift of giving to others, he should give freely.  If one has the gift of showing kindness to others, that he should do with joy.  Romans 12 v8
We co-operate Does your life in Christ give you strength? Does his love comfort you? Do we share together in the spirit? Do you have mercy and kindness? If so, make me very happy by having the same thoughts, sharing the same love, and having one mind and purpose.  When you do things, do not let selfishness or pride be your guide.  Be humble and give more honour to others than to yourselves.  Philippians 2 v1-4
We persevere

So we have many people of faith around us.  Their lives tell us what faith means.  So let us run the race that is before us and never give up.

Preparing Children for Life in Modern Britain

At Sutton Courtenay Primary School we take very seriously our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain. We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos and work of the school. All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts and, in particular, our RE, PSHE and Citizenship lessons provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop understanding. Children embrace these concepts with enthusiasm and demonstrate a good understanding of their application to their own lives.

The school makes considerable efforts to ensure children have exposure to a wide experience beyond their local community during which these concepts are shown, through for example, sporting events, a range of visits and use of outdoor education centres. Their strong rooted values-based understanding gives them an excellent platform for embracing difference.
