Welcome to Year 1 Kestrels

Our class teacher is Miss Gibbons and our teaching assistant is Miss McCann.

Our Topic this term is...

Polar Explorers!

We will be learning all about celebrations including fireworks night and Christmas. We will also be practising for our nativity performance happening in December.

Reading at Home

Your child will be supplied with a reading folder, reading record and school reading book. This must be brought into school everyday. Reading books will be changed once a week on a MondayReading records will be checked, please record every time you hear your child read, if this is not recorded, the book will not be changed as we will assume it has not been read. We encourage the books to be read as many times as possible in the week as this helps to develop both resilience and word recognition.

Reading is a core part of our day to day life at school where we encourage children to discover and explore a range of texts as well as aiming to encourage a love for reading.
It is important to establish a reading routine at home where children are reading every day to an adult for 5 minutes. Please record any reading to an adult in their reading diary.

If you have any questions about reading at home please catch Miss Gibbons or Miss McCann on the gate who are more than happy to help.

PE

Our PE days are on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Please remember your child needs black PE shorts for indoor PE. These need to be named as they will be collected in and kept in school. On our PE days it is important that all jewellery is removed for health and safety reasons. If your child has their ears pierced, please ensure earrings are removed before school.
